Road Warriors are about to halt their slump while Hotshots go for their third victory.
The NLEX Road Warriors hope to snap their losing skid as the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots aim to continue their unbeaten streak.
The Hotshots and the Road Warriors compete in the PBA Odds on Tour's Saturday out-of-town match at Baliwag City, Bulacan, with conflicting goals.
At 5 o'clock in the evening, the slow-starting NLEX team of Frankie Lim and the streaking Magnolia charges of Chito Victolero (2-0) took the Baliwag Star Arena court.
Victolero and the Hotshots have excelled, defeating Blackwater by a score of 117-83 and narrowly defeating Converge by a score of 99-95 despite the loss of crucial players Ian Sangalang, Calvin Abueva, and Jio Jalalon due to various ailments.
In the pre-season game hosted by Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus, the Hotshots saw solid performances from "project" big man James Laput, back-up guard Jed Mendoza, youthful shooter Jerrick Ahanmisi, and trade acquisition Abu Tratter.
Victolero claimed Magnolia is taking full advantage of the chance to further "develop" shock warriors like Laput, Mendoza, and Ahanmisi as well as get to know Tratter.
However, this does not imply that seasoned professionals like Mark Barroca and Paul Lee are taking it easy.
In fact, the Hotshots' attempt to escape what appeared to be an end-game collapse and secure Win No. 2 against Converge last Wednesday was led by the seasoned pair of Barroca and Lee.
While Magnolia is off to a great start, NLEX has struggled with its thin roster, suffering back-to-back losses to the Bossing (88-93) and Rain or Shine (93-117).
In an effort to strengthen the frontcourt currently manned by Mike Miranda and Jake Pascual, Lim moved to acquire stretch big man Ben Adamos from Phoenix this week in the hopes that it will help the team break out of its slump. (OL)
