Ginebra VS San Miguel Prediction
Trillo filled with anticipation as the Bolts go up against Converge.
If there is a team that consistently captures the attention of Meralco coach Luigi Trillo, it's Converge.
Trillo expressed his admiration for Converge's impressive performance, saying, "Converge is running their offense really well. The flow of their game... they'll wear you down because of their discipline." He even went on to predict that either the FiberXers or the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots would emerge as the frontrunners in the league's pre-season tournament presented by Arena Plus and sponsored by Bingo Plus.
"I believe Magnolia and Converge are the teams to beat," Trillo shared. "Who else can match their solidity? Their players are united and have started the season with great momentum."
Trillo's goal is to measure up to or even surpass the standards set by these teams, which intensifies his anticipation for the clash between his Bolts and the FiberXers on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
"I'm eagerly anticipating our match against Converge because I believe they are very well-coached and have a smooth playing style," expressed Trillo. "They know how to effectively utilize Coach Aldin Ayo's system."
Both teams are coming off recent losses, with Meralco falling to Phoenix Super LPG with a score of 93-100 last Sunday, while Converge suffered a 95-99 defeat against Magnolia three days later.
Trillo acknowledged that there are certain areas in which his Bolts need improvement, particularly with key players Aaron Black, Chris Newsome, Chris Banchero, and Diego Dario still recovering from injuries and adjusting to the new system implemented by Trillo and active consultant Nenad Vucinic, who were appointed just last month.
"We're still adapting," Trillo admitted. "Defensively, we are not yet completely synchronized due to the new system, so even our offense still needs some fine-tuning."
Despite the challenges, Trillo remains committed to shaping Meralco into the team he and Vucinic envisioned. He acknowledges that it will take time for the team to improve.
"If we wanted quick results and immediate wins, we could continue using the system we had under former head coach Norman Black, and we still incorporate some aspects of it," Trillo explained.
"However, if we take a forward-thinking or long-term approach, it may not look as impressive right now because the players are still adapting to certain aspects. But when we face them again in October with our full lineup, and when the team has a better understanding of our strategies and executes them on the court instead of merely reacting, I believe we will be stronger. Things will improve," Trillo expressed optimistically.
