NARD Pinto took over for the depleted Barangay Ginebra team on Wednesday night, scoring 22 points to help the Kings defeat the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters 95-89 at the Ynares Arena in Pasig to make their PBA Recap Highlights On Tour debut.
After losing its first two games in the preseason series against San Miguel Beer and Magnolia, Ginebra recorded its first victory thanks to the leadership of Pinto, who also contributed seven assists and four rebounds.
The top players from their first two games, Aljon Mariano and Raymond Aguilar, were still in the mix, combining for 33 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists.
For this series, Jason David, who was previously on Ginebra's 3x3 team, found his groove against the Fuel Masters, scoring 15 points while also contributing seven caroms and three dish-offs.
The Kings battled the Fuel Masters in a tight first half with these four players at the forefront of their effort before opening up a gap in the third and winning the hard-fought game sponsored by Bingo Plus and presented by Arena Plus.
The Fuel Masters overcame a 12-point hole in the third period and were only five points down when, with less than two minutes remaining, they gave up a vital four-point swing on a botched breakaway dunk attempt and a defensive rebound that Larry Muyang threw.
RJ Jazul led the Fuel Masters, who suffered their third straight defeat and slipped to 2-3, with six three-pointers and a total of 18 points, while Reden Celda concluded with two treys and 17 points.
Raul Soyud's streak of double-double games came to an end when he was only able to play for 16 minutes due to an injury to his right ankle. He contributed eight goals, six rebounds, and one assist.
With just five rebounds to go along with 13 points, Muyang's streak of double-double games also came to an end.
After a protracted absence, Javee Mocon made his presence known by scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
