The scorching Hotshots dominate Tropang Giga to secure their fifth victory.
PBA Recap Despite Paul Lee being sidelined, the Magnolia Hotshots continued to grind and maintained an impeccable record with a resounding 96-63 victory over the TNT Tropang Giga in PBA on Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Friday evening.
After a sluggish beginning, the Hotshots regained their footing and outplayed the Tropang Giga for the remaining three quarters, securing their fifth win in a row following previous triumphs against Blackwater (117-83), Converge (99-95), NLEX (103-97), and Ginebra (91-80).
On the other hand, the Tropang Giga experienced their third consecutive loss in the preseason series, presented by Arena Plus and sponsored by Bingo Plus. The team was notably missing key players such as Jayson Castro, Mikey Williams, Kelly Williams, Poy Errams, and others.
Contributions from Rome dela Rosa, Joseph Eriobu, Mark Barroca, James Laput, David Murrell, and Jerrick Ahanmisi were instrumental for the Hotshots as they orchestrated a commanding 28-13 run in the second quarter, setting the stage for their dominant performance.
Maintaining their momentum throughout the third quarter, they further intensified their efforts in the final period to complete the decisive victory.
Dela Rosa emerged as the top scorer, notching an impressive 19 points, while Laput showcased a remarkable double-double performance with 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Hotshots. The team sealed the lopsided match with an astounding 31-11 surge in the fourth quarter.
The Magnolia offensive onslaught was further bolstered by Eriobu, who contributed 14 points coming off the bench, as well as Barroca, Ahanmisi, and Murrell, who all chipped in with 11 points each.
Despite going 0-of-2 from the field, the returning Ian Sangalang made his presence felt with seven rebounds, one steal, and only two turnovers in his 20 minutes of gameplay.
Calvin Abueva, Aris Dionisio, and Russel Escoto remained sidelined.
Glenn Khobuntin continued to lead the charge for the Tropang Giga, showcasing his sharpshooting skills with three three-pointers and a total of 23 points.
