Game Reports

Tiongson scores 37 points, sinking NLEX as Terrafirma soars during PBA Recap Highlights on Tour.

Even though the PBA On Tour is a brief contest with little bearing, JUAMI Tiongson does not take events like these lightly.

At the Ynares Arena in Pasig City on Friday, Tiongson turned that attitude into a win by scoring a tournament-high 37 points to help Terrafirma defeat the undermanned NLEX team 110-96.

There is no disputing that individuals like Gelo Alolino, Andreas Cahilig, Eric Camson, and Allen Mina provided the much-needed assistance, but Tiongson stood out as the Dyip's best performer.

"I always treat each game like it's the playoffs, it's the finals, kasi there was a time I wasn't able to play. I don't want to miss an opportunity like this," said Tiongson, who added six rebounds, as many assists, and four steals while shooting 13 of 26 from the field, including 7 of 13 from beyond the arc.

"Credit to my teammates, I think they exclusively looked for me," said Tiongson. Even though I was missing shots, they still put their trust and belief in me and pushed me to be aggressive right away.

With 22 points in the second half, Tiongson led Terrafirma's repeated surges that gave it a lead of up to 107-87 before cruising to its second victory in five games, tying it with idle Phoenix Super LPG and San Miguel Beer in the preseason series presented by Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus. Tiongson did a great job of recovering from a four-point first quarter.

Don Trollano led NLEX with 20 points despite having to play with just nine players.

The Road Warriors' record fell to 1-4 as Kevin Alas contributed 15 points, Ben Adamos added 13 points and nine rebounds, Clint Doliguez and Jake Pascual each scored 10, while Sean Anthony came close to a double-double with nine points and 11 boards.

With 14 points from Alolino, 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds from Cahilig, and 12 points each from Mina and Camson, Terrafirma's deeper bench made all the difference.

It all came down to Tiongson, who scored 13 points in the third quarter to help the Dyip outscore their opponents 33–23 and take an 85–76 advantage into the fourth.

Kris Rosales scored five points in a row to pull NLEX within five points, but Isaac Go's layup, Tiongson's three-pointer, and Camson's own hoop pushed the margin back up to 92-80 before Alolino, Mina, Cahilig, and Tiongson sealed the victory.

Alas scored all 12 of his first-half points in the second quarter on three-pointers, the last of which was a halfcourt heave that beat the buzzer and gave the Road Warriors a 53-52 lead at the break. For a time, it appeared that momentum was on NLEX's side.
