TERRAFIRMA would not allow another setback to halt it from rising.
PBA Recap, The Dyip triumphed over TNT by a lopsided score of 104-90 on Wednesday in the PBA Recap Highlights On Tour at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City, defying the loss of another important player.
Juami Tiongson led the way with a game-high 21 points, starting Terrafirma's decisive run that saw them outscore TNT 42-25 in the third quarter and then start the fourth with a big 15-0 run for a 95-67 advantage.
The Dyip won their first game after three tries in the preseason competition hosted by Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus thanks in large part to the efforts of players like Allen Mina, Isaac Go, Andreas Cahilig, and JP Calvo.
According to Tiongson, their performance in the second half was a significant improvement over their first, when they trailed by as much as 19-32. "We really moved the ball, we played as a team, everyone was touching the ball, and everyone had rhythm," he said.
Mina, who scored all 10 of his points and dished out three assists in the third period to help the Dyip take an 80-67 lead into the game's final 12 minutes, was the epitome of Terrafirma's second-half performance.
"You can see Mina getting his rhythm. He was going with the flow in our offense," said Tiongson, who scored seven of his points in the opening three minutes and twenty seconds of the third session to tie the game at 50 apiece.
Kevin Ferrer, who missed a 94-100 loss to Blackwater because of a sore hand, seemed to injure his left hamstring with just 14 seconds left in the second quarter, cost his team the victory. The seasoned forward needed to be carried off the court and immediately to a local hospital.
Ed Daquioag scored 16 points, Go scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, and Cahilig scored 10 points and 9 rebounds, all of which helped fill the void.
Glenn Khobuntin led TNT, which suffered its second loss in as many games, with a game-high 25 points, and Frederick Tungcab added 14 points.
Khobuntin's triple off a Paul Varilla steal gave the KaTropa a lead of 58-53, but JP Calvo's free throws and Go's back-to-back threes sparked a huge 27-9 exchange that gave Terrafirma momentum going into the fourth quarter. (NC)
