Against Beermen, Elasto Painters avoid blushing.
PBA Recap ,The Elasto Painters nearly let a 24-point lead against San Miguel Beer slip away, but RAIN or Shine managed to maintain its spotless record in three PBA Recap Highlights on Tour games.
In spite of failing to score, Gabe Norwood significantly helped the Elasto Painters salvage a 100-98 victory on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig by blocking Terrence Romeo in the last seconds.
Jhonard Clarito had a big night offensively with a 17-point outburst, helping the E-Painters to their third victory after victories over NLEX (117-93) and Phoenix Super LPG (113-104) earlier in the season.
Unrecognized De Ocampo Memorial College forward Clarito scored 13 points overall in the team's opening two games, which were broadcast on Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus.
Clarito received drinks from his teammates on his good night just before a TV interview as Best Player of the Game.
"In-encourage ako ng mga teammates ko at naroon din ang tiwala ng mga coaches ko, kaya nakakuha ng rhythm," said Clarito, who in 25 minutes of play had an amazing 8-of-11 field shooting performance along with three assists, two steals, and one rebound.
A balanced Rain or Shine offense that included at least eight points from Anton Asistio, Shawn Ildefonso, and Nick Demusis was led by Gian Mamuyac's 14 points, Leo Santillan's 12 points, and Jewel Ponferrada's 11 points.
The Elasto Painters were dominating the game with a lead as large as 24 points thanks to a significant edge in bench scoring and fastbreak, but some carelessness allowed the Beermen to tie the game in the dying seconds.
With more than 30 seconds left in the game, an 8-0 surge capped by a triple from Allyn Bulanadi brought the Beermen within two, 98-100.
With 14.6 ticks remaining, they then had an opportunity to tie or even take the lead after regaining possession after Rey Nambatac's missed effort.
However, Norwood salvaged the day for Rain or Shine by playing Romeo like the defensive superstar he is.
Romeo's 25-point performance and Bulanadi's 31-point outburst, which included five three-pointers, both failed.
San Miguel suffered its second defeat overall and its first in its last three games. (SB)
