The Bolts deliver a resounding victory over the undermanned Beermen in Tiaong. PBA Recap in Tiaong, Quezon, Allein Maliksi showcased his scoring prowess with 21 points, leading a well-balanced Meralco team to a 92-89 victory over San Miguel Beer in the PBA On Tour. Maliksi, coming off the bench, made an impact with five three-pointers on a 7-of-16 shooting performance. The Bolts had three other players scoring in double digits, contributing to their second consecutive win and an overall record of 3-1 in the pre-season series.
On the other hand, the Beermen's record dropped to 2-3 as they had to contend with the absence of Terrence Romeo, who had been averaging over 20 points in their previous games.
Benefiting from a deeper bench in this matchup, the Bolts outperformed the Beermen in various aspects. They dominated the rebounding battle with a 56-48 advantage and showcased their bench strength by outscoring their depleted opponents 32-8.
Leading the charge for the Meralco bench mob was Maliksi, accompanied by Raymond Almazan, Bong Quinto, Anjo Caram, Alvin Pasaol, and Cliff Hodge.
Quinto had an impressive scoring night, contributing 19 points, while Almazan recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Caram, maintaining his consistent presence at the point, added 11 points and seven assists.
The reserves also made significant contributions, including Jansen Rios, who made a crucial defensive play by blocking Allyn Bulanadi's shot in the final moments to preserve the narrow 92-89 lead.
Jericho Cruz (19 points), Bulanadi (18), Marvin Lee (18), Moala Tautuaa (12), and Rodney Brondial (15) all provided double-digit scoring as starters, but the rest of the San Miguel Beer team combined for only eight points.
A notable surprise came from Marvin Lee, who impressed with a 5-of-8 shooting performance from beyond the arc.
