Phoenix repels San Miguel PHOENIX Super LPG pulled off a daring escape in the PBA


On Tour of PBA Recap Highlights ,Wednesday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, surviving a fierce second-half barrage by San Miguel Beer.


After blowing a 26-point lead and trailing by three points in the final two minutes, the Fuel Masters were able to pull out the victory thanks to clutch three-pointers from Tyler Tio and Raul Soyud.


With 15 points and eight rebounds, Simon Camacho led eight Phoenix players in double figures.


In a well-rounded attack, Tio scored 14, Larry Muyang added 11 points and 12 rebounds, RR Garcia added 11, Sean Manganti, Kurt Lojera, and Soyud each scored 10, and RR Garcia added 11 points.


Despite playing without its major players June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, and usual starting guard Simon Enciso, SMB was led by Terrence Romeo's 27 and Rob Herndon's 21 points.


The more physically fit Fuel Masters launched into the first tip with all of their might and enthusiasm.


RJ Jazul made two early triples to lead Jamike Jarin's team to an explosive 18-2 start.


Because of their strong performances, Camacho, Tio, and Soyud helped the Fuel Masters maintain a strong lead, and by the halfway point of the second, they had a 53-27 lead.


Late in the period, Romeo gave SMB life with a 14-point spurt, but Manganti ignited a ferocious counter that allowed Phoenix to maintain a comfortable lead, 61-44, at the half.


Herndon heated up following the restart to assist the Beermen in bringing their levels down to a tolerable level. After that, the more seasoned San Miguel team increased its lead to 101-98 until Tio and company regained it with an 8-0 windup.


"After nung last conference, mga two or three weeks lang kaming off then takbo uli, Gusto talaga naming bumawi next season," said Camacho, who was chosen as the game's best player. (OL)
