San Miguel defeats NorthPort with a performance by Brondial

PBA Recap at the Caloocan Sports Complex on Saturday in the PBA on Tour, RODNEY Brondial led San Miguel Beer to a comeback victory over NorthPort, 87-75, with figures akin to those of June Mar Fajardo.

Brondial seized the chance to shine PBA Recap Highlights , while Fajardo was still treating his knee, scoring 18 points, pulling down 21 rebounds, and dishing out three assists to lead SMB past Batang Pier (0-2) and into the victory column after losing to Phoenix 101-106 to start the preseason meet.

When he was named Player of the Game, Brondial commented, "When I was nabibigyan ako ng pagkakataon, I just wanted to see what kind of kaya kong gawin and what kind of matulungan ang team ko na manalo."

In the third quarter, Brondial, who went 5-of-6 from the field, scored 11 of his total points, teaming up with Jericho Cruz to help the Batang Pier restore a double-digit margin after they had cut their original 20-point lead to a manageable five.

Cruz led all scorers with 22, followed by Terrence Romero with 14 points after scoring 27, and Mo Tautuaa with 11 for the Jorge Gallent-coached Beermen.

For NorthPort, who struggled to recover from its 89-97 opening-round loss to Meralco in this preseason game presented by Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus, Paul Zamar poured in 20, MJ Ayaay shot 18, and JM Calma scored 14-13.

The Batang Pier had the worst start imaginable, scoring just six points in the opening 12 minutes on a dismal 3-of-25 shooting.

The 14-point outburst of Ayaay in the second, when the Batang Pier fought back to within five, 34-39, energized Bonnie Tan's charges.

The difference then increased to a more manageable 13 heading into the last canto after Brondial and Cruz combined for 20. (OL)
