As Magnolia defeats Converge in a thrilling conclusion, Barroca and Lee assume control
In a thrilling PBA Recap Highlights 99-95 victory over Converge on Wednesday night at Ynares Sports Arena, Magnolia improved to 2-0 in the PBA Recap Highlights On Tour. MARK Barroca and Paul Lee handled the closeout.
Barroca made 10 of his 12 shots in the fourth quarter, made several crucial defensive plays, and Lee hit two clutch three-pointers to prevent a catastrophic collapse and help the Hotshots follow up their opening 117-83 romp of Blackwater.
Due to Kevin Racal's clutch three-point shooting, the FiberXers erased the Hotshots' initial 14-point lead and even took the lead 95-92 with 1:49 remaining in the game, which was hosted by Arena Plus and supported by Bingo Plus.
However, Barroca spearheaded a 7-0 run that helped Magnolia win by scoring six straight points, including a pair of cold-blooded free throws.
"Gusto naming mag-build ng winning mindset before maglaro sa season sa October kaya all-out kami," said Barroca, whose defensive stops against Jeron Teng and Alec Stockton in the stretch proved crucial for Chito Victolero's soldiers.
In place of the injured Jio Jalalon, 3x3 star Jed Mendoza scored 14 points on 5-of-6 field goal shooting to lead Magnolia with 21 points, boosted by five triples. In place of Ian Sangalang and Calvin Abueva, James Laput (eight points, 10 rebounds), and Abu Tratter (eight points, six rebounds), Jerick Ahanmisi added 12 of his own.
Racal led the FiberXers, who fell to 1-1, with 22 points, including a 4-of-5 three-point shooting performance. For the Aldin Ayo-coached team, Jerrick Balanza (20) and birthday boy Mike Nieto (18) made significant contributions as well. (OL)
